History of our agency
DEMPSTER INSURANCE AGENCY, LLC is a local, full service, family owned business, which was started by William W. Dempster in 1964, out of his home. By the early 1970’s, the business had outgrown the small front porch office that was once a dream, but now a successful local independent insurance agency. Due to the need for greater office space, William moved the business to Overhill Rd, in Peoria. That became home to Dempster Insurance Agency for 30+ years. William’s daughter, Laurie and son-in-law, Casey became involved in the business in 1991. William worked for 40 years in the insurance industry, before retiring in 2004. Upon his retirement, Laurie and Casey took over the agency on a full time basis. In 2005, Dempster Insurance Agency purchased the Harold Plack Agency, another family owned business, from which Harold took over from his father many years prior. Harold finally decided to retire and take it easy at the young age of 79! Mr. Plack was still very involved in the agency for many years following retirement. In February, 2007, Dempster Insurance suffered a major loss, as William lost his battle with cancer. His legacy lives on, however, and his philosophy of providing excellent customer service is instilled in the agency on a daily basis.
In May, 2007, once again, due to the tremendous agency growth, we relocated to a larger office space just around the corner, still in Sterling Plaza. In December, 2008, we opened our second location at 82 E. Fort Street in Farmington, IL, to help service our already current customers in the western Peoria, Knox and Fulton County areas. In November 2012, we continued to grow and relocated our Peoria office across town to 3510 W. Willow Knolls Rd., to help with more office space! Due to a retirement, May, 2015 brought us an opportunity to purchase the Kelsch Insurance Agency, just a few short miles down the road in Peoria. Then, in January 2017, Dempster Insurance Agency purchased the Edsall Agency and opened offices in Lewistown, Ipava, Astoria and Canton. And, most recently in January 2018, we purchased the Hubbard Insurance Agency in Canton when John retired.

Our average client retention ratio over the history of our agency is approximately 93%. Our customers stay with us for a number of years due to the excellent service we provide. Another part of the personal, “hands-on” service we give to our clients also means we perform annual reviews on all policies, and we are here to help you when you have a claim.
